Empower Your Journey

One little girl decided to write a one book to tell the world

what it was like to live with her brain. From that one

book came a full series from youth to death.

2009 Young Author - Gold Award Mom's Choice 2007 Best Family Book - Authors and Books Awards
Childhood Written by Liz Kulp and her mother, Jodee Kulp. Translated into Russian and Ukrainian (downloads are free in those translations) The most important book on FASD you will ever read! By Nora Boesem "Early on in my journey to learn more about FASD, I found this book. I can't truly put into words the impact it had on my life, but I do know it was a turning point. I now run a non-profit supporting families who are dealing with FASD in South Dakota. If I am asked the one book someone should read, this is my recommendation. If someone will only read one, then this is the book to get. This book helped me see life through my child’s eyes. To hear a mother and to hear the words of an amazing woman. I now give this book away at every speaking engagement I do (unfortunately, I can only give one copy away), and many people tell me it helped to carry them through hard times. I doubt that Liz and Jodee even realize how many lives they have touched over the years, but I know it is many. I hope that others find this book and are helped. Thank you so much for the message this book contains! HOPE!!!!"

Homeschooling / Neurodevelopment Written by Jodee Kulp, drawing on five years of homeschool case notes, therapy, medical, and research to empower Liz. My go-to book! By Ruby Tuesday "I’ve had my spiral-bound copy for many years, its well-worn much like the Velveteen Rabbit. My daughter with FAS is now almost 14, lower functioning than Liz. I learned a lot about the brain, practical teaching ideas, nutrition, sensory integration & emotional regulation techniques. They helped and gave me hope to weather the past crisis and craziness. I’ve avoided meds so far, for both of us:) Now, as a teen, she is no longer hyper, has more language, can wait, agrees to contingencies, and we’re very bonded… so for now things are good. I never found other books with so many suggestions and easy-to-understand practical info. Thanks for this bible of FASD."

2011 Mom's Choice Gold - Non-Fiction Life's Challenges
Early Adult Transition Liz wrote this to help prevent her disastrous early young adult transition from happening to others. Required FASD Reading By Mary E. Greene "Liz Kulp’s newest book, the Braided Cord, is a must-read for anyone whose life is touched by adoption or foster parenting, including prospective parents, teachers, health care professionals, and social workers. Through her narrative, Liz offers her readers a direct lens into both her life and her disability. To read this young woman’s courageously honest words is to know not only Liz Kulp, but the life and world of young persons struggling with this devastating, often invisible, disability. Her mother’s entries, as well as those within her circle of support, provide a bird’s-eye view of Liz’s choices, dilemmas, triumphs and missteps. As the adoptive mother of a FASD child, I know too well that our children grow quickly, that they want to fly and experience freedom and independence as surely as any other young person, despite the disability that at times hinders their judgment and clouds their reasoning. I only hope I have the strength and courage to fortify the bond with my child so that when the time comes, he’ll be prepared to take that journey, knowing, like Liz, that he’ll never be alone."

Empower Your Journey

Work With Jodee. Speak. Teach. Publish.

Jodee brings a lifetime of lived experience, joy, advocacy, creative communication, and compassionate practical support to the people, animals, and stories she serves.

Explore ways to learn with her, invite her to speak, or get trusted guidance as you bring your own meaningful life changes or even your dream of a book into the world.

Jodee is available for international classes, keynote presentations, workshops, interactive learning events, and virtual classrooms. She also offers engaging online trainings, webinars, and lunch-and-learn sessions for schools, caregiver groups, faith communities, organizations, and professional teams. Her presentations bring together lived experience, practical tools, creative learning, and compassionate conversation around FASD, neurodiversity, trauma-responsive support, caregiving, advocacy, life skills, and community belonging.
Through hands-on, heart-centered approaches, participants are encouraged to slow down, notice what works, build confidence through meaningful activity, and strengthen connection with one another, animals, and the living world around them.
Her teaching celebrates restorative wisdom found in relationships, nature, and everyday life. Jodee creates experiences that bring neighbors, elders, and children together to learn nature play, exercise, respectful canine interactions, wildcrafting, gardening, and “old-fashioned” practical skills, shared stories, seasonal rhythms, and time outdoors.

Jodee works especially well with first-time authors, caregivers, elders, advocates, educators, and families who may not think of themselves as writers—but who carry wisdom that deserves to be gathered, shaped, and passed on. Your publishing dream does not need to be perfect before you begin. It simply needs a beginning, a willingness to keep going, and someone who understands how to help you find the next right page.
Together, you can clarify your purpose and audience, shape a manuscript, organize your ideas, refine the language, and develop a book that feels true to your voice.
